Sicilian Wine Lovers ("Amanti dei Vini Siciliani") is a private, non-profit organization established here in Sicily (specifically Palermo) late in 2002 to make known to the international community the quality of Sicily's best wines. We receive no public funding and we do not represent any winery or wine consortium. This publication (at WinesofSicily.info) exists to present useful information which was not being published in English for an international readership elsewhere on the Web.

Instead, we promote Sicilian wines from an objective, rational, impartial perspective. Because it's out belief that quality is not always expressed in quantity (or in large advertising budgets), we publicize the products of smaller, lesser-known wineries as well as larger ones.

While we do not make or sell wines, we do organize occasional wine tastings, wine tours and other events here in Sicily, especially for those wishing to purchase Sicilian wines in quantity on behalf of stores, restaurants and other establishments. As our organization cannot defray the full cost of such promotions, we must charge at least nominal fees for these services, offered in collaboration with wineries, wine wholesalers, exporters and tour operators. In other words, we cannot undertake free promotions and we do not sponsor free trips to Sicily. (We receive many requests for such things.)

Sicilian Wine Lovers may, in certain cases, be able to refer readers to certain wine vendors, exporters or other services, but we cannot promote particular wineries, nor can we provide free consultation, research, product searches and the like, which are offered exclusively on a paid basis.

This is the most popular website to present information on Sicilian wines. In fact, it's the only one published in English and regularly updated that is dedicated exclusively to this topic. In order to remain impartial, we do not normally link to the websites of specific wineries, though we accept paid banner advertising to defray our publishing costs. Essentially, Sicilian Wine Lovers is a consumer organisation that represents the interests of the wine-drinking public, not a trade association paid to undertake public relations for a specific industry.

As we consider wine in its culinary and cultural contexts, we often publish material which, strictly speaking, may not deal with wine directly but rather with subjects (society, food, places, history) of which wine is an element. We receive no compensation for mentioning the products or services of particular firms in the editorial sections of this website, and we do not charge for textual links. Our editorial staff is based in Sicily.
